OUR STORY

Two people. Two dogs. Lots of animal love.

We're a husband-and-wife (and two-dog) team focused on ethically raising animals and encouraging others to know where their food comes from. Jackie was a vegetarian for over 10 years, concerned about animal welfare on factory farms. When she moved to upstate NY and small farms were in her backyard, she realized that she could do more to change the commercial meat industry by supporting local farms centered on animal welfare. Then she met Jon: a do-it-yourselfer to the extreme. And he happened to have an old farmhouse and some land (and was cute, too). They got married, bought 50 chickens, and began their journey toward raising animals that are cuddled, massaged, and spoiled every day of their lives.

ABOUT OUR FARM

Old Colonial-style farmhouses dot the hills of the hamlets of Best and Luther.  Over a century ago, only farmland separated them.  Almost all the farms have long since been subdivided for housing or turned over to forest, including our farm at 641 Miller.

More a "homestead" than a true farm in its current iteration, our ultimate goal is food self-sufficiency and being able to provide for neighbors and friends in a way that benefits not just the people, but the land and animals that we depend upon.

Our chickens and turkeys are rotated over pastures to ensure they always have green grass to pluck at and fresh earth to scratch.  Our pigs are rotated through the woods surrounding the chicken pastures giving them lots of natural forage including acorns, hickory nuts, and walnuts that are abundant in their lots.

PASTURE RAISED & GMO FREE

Our land is managed without the use of pesticides, weed killers, or chemical fertilizers. All of our animals receive non-GMO feed that is grown right here in Rensselaer County on a family-owned farm.  While we believe in the health benefits of organic produce and meat production, we also believe in the pursuit of reducing food waste.  To that end, our pigs also receive food from friends, neighbors, and local produce growers that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
